Rudolf; the painting depicts a lovely young maiden wearing a traditional costume, inscribed as "Theatergretl" ("theatre Gretl"), rehearsing a theatre performance while cleaning shoes; in the background, there are two men watching her in a very amused way; also, a poster of the local theatre is put up on the wall with news on the theatre piece "Maria Stuart"
