GMUNDEN / GMUNDNER ART POTTERY manufacture: founded 1829 by family Schleiss / Schleiß in Gmunden / Austria; Leopold Schleiß (1853 – 1910) overtook the company from his father in 1887 and founded an art pottery manufacture in Gmunden-Traunleiten in 1903. In 1904 Franz Schleiß leaded the company and worked together with Emilie Simandl his later wife (1911). The manufacture was specialized in Majolica and faiences, figurines, vases, trinket boxes and bowls. The company worked together with several alumnae of the K. u. K. art design school Vienna and later following other artists: Hertha Bucher, Hilde Dittrich, Josef Hoffmann, Johanna Künzli, Maria Likarz, Berthold Löffler, Josef Emanuel Margold, Josef Martin Palme, Dagobert Peche, Michael Powolny, Valerie Wieselthier, Ida Schwetz Lehmann, Wolfgang von Wersin, Franz von Zülow and the painters Ernst Huber and Ernst August Freih. V. Mandesloh. The company was represented at several successful exhibitions in Austria and London.
