*1846 Nancy/Meurthe et Moselle, +1904 Nancy/Meurthe et Moselle Èmile Gallè was born on 04.05.1846 as son of Charles Gallè-Reinemer and his wife Marie, born Reinemer, in Nancy. Charles Gallè, was
a porcelain painter and ceramic artist and he leaded a mirror-glass, glass and ceramic shop. He worked together with the manufactures Legras & Cie., Verreries de St. Denis et de Pantin, which
were decorated by Burgun, Schverer & Co., Verreries de Meisenthal in Meisenthal. In 1864 he purchased the manufacture St. Clement, his most popular designer at this time: Prouvè Gengoult.
1865/66 he studied in Weimar and he travelled to Dresden, Leipzig and Bohemia and studied the botany. 1866 he did a practical course under Christian Dèsirè at Burgun, Schverer & Cie. he
learned all the techniques of glass manufacture. 1867 was the first time he was represented at the world exhibition in Paris, 1889 he received the Grand Prix for glass art and the golden medal
for ceramic art. Since 1894 all glasses were manufactured in Nancy, now he had about 300 employers. Gallè died in 1904, his wife Henriette Gallè-Grimm and Prof. Paul Perdrizet leaded the
manufacture from now on, between 1904 and 1914 most glasses were marked with a star together with the Gallè signature. 1914 the manufacture was closed because of the world war and in 1918 the
manufacture started again under M. Chevalier. In the year 1931 the manufacture was closed.
